Cultural Anthropology
Armadina “Nina” Az Zahra is a cultural anthropology PhD student interested in the political economy of development initiatives and the formation of state power and resistance. In particular, she is interested in exploring and analyzing the intricacies between national and transnational development projects in West Papua.
Nina’s work centers in Eastern Indonesia, particularly Papua, ranging from both coastal and highland areas, along with Central and Southeast Sulawesi. Prior to her graduate school in the United States, she worked as an independent researcher and practitioner, focusing on economic development programs for indigenous farmers in Papua’s highlands.
Nina received her BA in Social Anthropology from Universitas Indonesia and an MA in Southeast Asian Studies alongside an International Development Certificate from the University of Washington as a Fulbright Scholar.
