Cultural Anthropology
Bao Xiong is a PhD student in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She completed her BA in anthropology from the University of California-Merced and her MA in Southeast Asian Studies at UW-Madison. Her current research examines Hmong identity and community formation across generations, with a focus on non-refugee mobility and transnational marriage. She is engaged in ethnographic research that centers Hmong lived experiences to explore how kinship, gender, identity, and belonging are negotiated across borders. Her work moves beyond dominant refugee frameworks in Hmong studies to highlight ongoing forms of mobility and relational life.
