Cultural Anthropology
Daián is a first-year PhD student in cultural anthropology. She graduated with honors from the University of Chicago in 2025 with B.A.s in Anthropology and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Her research interests include multiculturalism, nationalism, decolonial practices, popular culture, iconography, and racecraft. She is particularly interested in Afro-PuertoRicaness, and how popular culture represents the multiculturalism of PuertoRicaness in contrast to how nationalistic narratives have silenced that multiculturalism, ultimately exploring how current social practices disrupt the primacy and hegemony of the nationalist PuertoRicaness.
