Biological Anthropology

Irene is a first-year PhD student in the Strier lab. She is interested in Neotropical primate conservation, with a focus on the family Atelidae and the Critically Endangered brown-headed spider monkey. She questions how habitat loss disturbs population density, behavior and ecology of brown-headed spider monkeys inhabiting forest fragments in Ecuador. Through her research, she aims to estimate the minimum area of suitable habitat needed to maintain minimum viable populations of that species, and apply her results to focus conservation efforts.
