David Weber
David is a Dissertator in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His academic interests include political symbolism, monuments and memorials, sacredness, place and space, nationalism, and cultural & historical memory.
David has spent two years in Moscow, Russia (most recently as a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Grant recipient in 2006) researching the role that the use of space and political symbolism – in the form of commemorative events and monumental architecture, among others – work to convey and contest aspects of cultural and historical memory in the process of negotiating a contemporary Russian identity in the post-Soviet urban environment.
