Katie Lindstrom is a PhD candidate whose specializes in the archaeology of the Indus Civilization, the first state-level society in India/Pakistan (2600-1900 BC).
Her PhD research focuses on the manifestations of Indus material culture, especially ceramics, at a small craft production center in Kutch, Gujarat, India and the connection of this settlement to the large Indus cities of Harappa and Mohanjo-Daro (Pakistan). Since 2003 Katie has made half a dozen trips to South Asia in order to study language (Urdu), visit archaeological sites in both India and Pakistan and meet with South Asian archaeologists. She is an active member of the Harappa Archaeological Research Project and participated in excavations at Harappa in the winter of 2007. In 2006 she and a colleague, Dr. Brad Chase, built a computerized archival database for Department of Archaeology, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat. She has developed similar archival databases for the Department of Anthropology, University of Wisconsin. Katie has presented papers on both computerized archives and the initial results of her dissertation research at international conferences in India and Italy. She has Master's degrees in both South Asian Studies and Archaeology from the University of Wisconsin.
