Marc Kissel

While Marc originally came to UW-Madison to study the hunting and scavenging behaviors of early Hominids in Africa, he recently has switched focuses slightly and is now concentrating on early human behavior in West Asia, specifically examining the hunting techniques of the Middle Paleolithic peoples in Israel . He hopes to be able to study fauna from cave sites, using taphonomic techniques developed for the Plio-Pleistocene in order to better understand how these hominids were able to obtain prime prey species as well as compete with other carnivores. Marc has done field work at Neandertal sites in France and Spain , as well as spending one field season in the Delaware Water Gap trying to locate a French and Indian War site. He has been a Teaching Assistant for various courses in the Anthropology department and is currently running lab sections for Introduction to Biological Anthropology. Marc will be presenting some of his research at the American Association of Physical Anthropologists in the Spring of 2008.
