Karin Butterworth
Karin Butterworth is a graduate student in cultural anthropology. Her research interests include the construction of identity in relation to place and space, indigenous populations, political ecology, tourism, and nationalism in East Africa. Karin has received two Foreign Languages and Area Studies fellowships from the African Studies Department in 2006 and 2007. In addition, she is involved in AnthroCircle, serving on the Outreach Committee. Currently, she is working to develop an outreach program that would bring UW-Madison anthropology students into local schools to discuss their research and anthropology in general.
Karin received her B.A. from Colgate University with a double concentration in Native American Studies and Sociology and Anthropology. Prior to graduate school she interned at Cultural Survival and worked as a program developer for Maasai Education Discovery.
