Camille Bernier
Camille Bernier is interested in the social significance and dynamics of story telling in contemporary contexts on the Bad River Ojibwe reservation in Northern Wisconsin . She completed her fieldwork in 2005 and is currently writing her dissertation with the help and support of Dr. Paul Nadasdy and her co-advisor Dr. Larry Nesper. To best understand the cultural work of stories and to demonstrate a range of contextually dependent and implied messages in narrative performance, her project combines insights from five overlapping theoretical projects: the concept of invented tradition, performance theory, contextual studies, the social construction of identity in performance, and the revitalization process. She has recently published two articles examining the contemporary significance of an historical Ojibwe prophecy.
