CALL FOR PAPERS

DEADLINE for Title/Abstract submission is January 7, 2007.

Each submission should include:

Considerations for Title and Abstract Submissions

We encourage students and professional archaeologists, ethnographers, and ethnohistorians who conduct research in the Andean and Amazonian regions of South America to submit papers about current or recent work. We ask that your title, abstract, and presentation be "public-friendly" as well as scholarly. Please limit jargon, orient the audience in space and time, organize your presentation with a clear narrative structure, and carefully choose your slides. Papers that have been presented at other scholarly events or published are discouraged. Both abstracts and papers may be in English or Spanish, or an Andean/Amazonian tongue if translation is provided.

In the interest of time, individual presentations are scheduled for 20 minutes. The time limit will be enforced by the moderators. Please respect the time limit. We encourage you to practice and time your presentation with slides in advance.

Five to ten minute blocks will be set aside for questions, comments and discussion after each 3-4 presentations.

A digital projector will be available for oral presentations. We recommend that you use Powerpoint© slides for your presentation. Backup your presentation on CD and/or a memory stick. We will have a technician and a dedicated computer (Mac and PC) available for Powerpoint© slide projection.

Poster Presentations: New!

Poster sessions are ideal for people new to presentation at meetings, such as junior grad students or senior undergrads. They are also useful for supplementary presentations about projects whose main paper is given in a session. Multiple individual oral presentations about the same project will be limited.

Adding poster presentations to the conference makes it possible to increase the number of participants, as well as the amount of research communicated. Posters take advantage of break and mingling times. Posters will be prominently displayed throughout the 2-day conference.

We encourage participants and audience-members to view the posters and discuss and make comments to the author(s) during breaks on both days and after the afternoon session on Saturday.

Poster presentations do require the submission of a title and abstract. Please use the same format used for oral presentations but designate your presentation as a poster.

Guidelines for Poster Presentations

Every poster must include:

Posters should be 4 x 8 feet or smaller (landscape format). Title should be 6" in height and up to 8' long at the top of the poster. Main text should be double-spaced, 16-20 point fonts. Text may be in English, Spanish, or an Andean/Amazonian tongue.

We recommend designing the poster with Adobe Illustrator or other similar graphics software. Save the file in PDF format for printing. FEDEX Kinko's and other large copy shops provide color printing for posters at reasonable prices. Your university, college, or institution also may provide this printing service. The University of Wisconsin cannot provide printing or paper. If you have questions, please contact the conference organizers.
